Beaconsfield Formal Garden

Project type:

Client Garden

Landscaper:

Gadsden Gardens

A timeless blend of elegance and functionality. Two porcelain structured terraces in the back garden provide distinct yet connected spaces for outdoor living. Custom lighting—including recessed and spike lights—highlights feature Torc pots, architectural planting and an outdoor gas fire table.

Box head trees and parasol trees in oversized containers complete the stylish, multifunctional setting In the back garden this lush, layered space was reimagined to include a woodland-style retreat with bark paths, tired evergreen hedging, and a sculptural focal point carved in shou-sugi ban timber.

Thoughtful timber edging defines crisp lawn lines while softening height transitions across the garden. Ambient lighting accents a handcrafted bench and tree sculpture, creating a magical atmosphere after dusk.

With a modern refresh focused on curb appeal and privacy, the front garden now features precision planting, contemporary containers with illuminated topiary, and new structural elements like a black-painted close board fence and metal railings. A grove of standard Ligustrum trees and strategically placed olive trees bring elegance, while gravel and soft underplanting maintain a clean, textured look.

“Having bought a house and completed a major internal renovation project, the garden and grounds needed a complete re-work – They were in an awful state! Rachel was recommended to us by a local landscape company (who knew her well). It was a one-horse race because during our very first meeting with her, she outlined her general approach as well as giving us a good flavour for how she would approach our project. She was so impressive in her professional, precise, creative and friendly approach, we knew there was little point in looking any further so the meeting concluded with a ‘when can you start’ moment! We really hit jackpot with Rachel as her pricing was reasonable yet the quality of her work, the attention to detail, the technical knowhow all wrapped-up in her easy-to-work with style ticked all the boxes and then some. She went on to provide a ‘cradle-to-grave’ service throughout the entire implementation process because as well as helping us to assess landscape company’s quotes, she was there all the way through the implementation process ensuring that everything was executed to her exact plan.

The result was just perfect and surpassed all expectations. Rachel converted a nice-looking house on a terrible-looking piece of land to an overall piece of art (both aesthetically and functionally). By way of a brief list of what was included in the ‘finished article’ would include beautiful and tastefully picked planting plans [and the plants themselves], beautifully-shaped areas of ‘woodland’, a very prestigious patio with lovely pots and other such features, gravel pathways, hedging, interesting -looking trees, custom-built wooden structures (bike-shed and bin-store), irrigation, lighting and the list goes on. In conclusion, I would highly-recommend Rachel for any landscape project design and probably of any size.”
